Senior Khali Howe Has Poem Published in A Celebration of Poets

St. Raymond High School for Boys senior Khali Howe had his poem “The Door” published in the 2011 edition of A Celebration of Poets. This poetry anthology collects the best works from students in grades 4-12 throughout the country. According to the book’s forword, “The poets in this book listened to an inner voice; a voice that can be the loudest of the many voices in our world, but to pay attention to this voice takes self-control. The effect of these words may not be far reaching, but to even make a small difference in the world is a positive thing.”

Khali has been writing poetry for about two years, and his mother urged him to submit a poem for this anthology. “I was in between three poems, and she said I should submit ‘The Door’,” Khali said. “I found out the day after my birthday that my poem had got in. This will be my birthday present for the next six months.” Upon graduating from St. Raymond High School in May, Khali hopes to study creative writing in college and would like to someday be a published author. Congratulations to Khali on this great accomplishment!
St. Raymond Hosts Pro-Life Vigil in Preparation for Washington, DC March for Life

On Friday, January 6 St. Raymond High School for Boys hosted its annual Pro-Life Vigil with guest speaker Tony Bellizzi who spoke to students about post-abortion issues. The evening included pizza and prayer prior to heading to Dr. Emily's Clinic in the South Bronx for an evening of peaceful prayer.

The eleven students and five faculty members who participated prayed the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and sang "Amazing Grace." The evening served as a witness to passers-by and gave community members an opportunity to unite in prayer before God.

Tony Bellizzi is the founder of Hope for the Children, a youth minister, and a retreat presenter to youth. Tony is a youth minister who presented a program called "Full of Grace." The program focused on the Blessed Mother and her apparitions. He introduced Mary and addressed the question, "What is Mary inviting us to do?" This event helped prepare the St. Raymond community for the March for Life Walk in Washington, DC that St. Raymond takes part in annually.

Mark your calendars for January 23, 2012. This annual event is intended to give witness to the importance of life from conception to natural death. Student will join Br. Richard Galvin, FSC '82 and attend Mass and then march with all attendees to Capitol Hill.
