St. Raymond High School for Boys 2010-2011
Opening Parent Newsletter

August 1, 2010

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Greetings from St. Raymond High School for Boys! Hopefully you and your sons are enjoying the summer vacation and are preparing for an exciting new school year. The Class of 2010 boasted a 99% NYS Regents Diploma rate, one of the highest percentages in the Archdiocese of NY, and they earned close to $3.5 million in college scholarships. So, there is much to be thankful for and much to be done this year.

In order to continue our tradition of a Catholic, Lasallian education for this upcoming school year we would ask that you carefully read the enclosed materials. Of particular importance would be a careful review of the student handbook and calendar. Changes have occurred in the Tuition and Fees section. Additionally, TMS has changed the late fee to $40. No student should report to orientation without the proper dress code, including Flynn and O’Hara pants. Students who do not have the proper pants on the first day will be sent home. Please visit Flynn and O’Hara early to obtain your pants so that your son does not encounter difficulties. New parents are reminded to sign the enclosed acknowledgement about the handbook and return it through your son on his orientation day. All students enrolled in computer classes are required to have a flash drive.

We welcome these new faculty members to our community – Br. Fred DelAntonio, F.S.C. (Business Office), Br. Paul Joslin, F.S.C. (Foreign Language), Mr. Theodore Povinelli (Science).

All new parents and freshman parents are required to attend a New Parent Orientation Night and Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 8 at 7:00 pm in the gym. You will discover much information about St. Raymond High School at this meeting, and freshmen parents will visit their sons’ teachers for a brief classroom presentation. Refreshments will be served for parents during the program.
The first meeting of the Parents’ Association will take place on September 15 at 7:00 pm in the school library. We strongly invite and encourage all parents to take an active part in their son’s education by attending this meeting and joining our Parents’ Association.

Your son must have his summer reading assignment completed by September 13. You can find another copy of the reading list and assignment on the school’s website (www.straymondhighschool.org).

ORIENTATION SCHEDULE
We would ask that your son arrive at school in the full dress code for the orientation days. A school sweater, shirt and tie, Flynn and O’Hara dress pants (blue, black or khaki) and shoes (brown or black only) with socks should be worn. He should not have dyed or altered hair or eyebrows, and hair length should not touch his shirt collar. No earrings are permitted, even if they are covered with a band-aid. All students must be clean-shaven. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Students in violation of the dress code will be sent home and be subject to disciplinary action. Those students will be counted as absent and will be required to attend a “Special Orientation” on Thursday, September 9 at 10:00 am. Lunch will not be provided on the orientation days. Please make sure that all tuition obligations are taken care of before sending your son to school; school fees were due in July and your first tuition payment is due on August 1 or 15 to TMS. Remember that freshmen and new parents paid the school fee as part of the registration process.

Freshmen: Assemble by 8 am on Thursday, September 9, in the parking lot. This orientation day will conclude at 12:30 pm. Regular classes begin on Friday, September 10 with a regular school schedule.

FALL INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS TRYOUTS/NURSE’S OFFICE
All students trying out for the soccer, bowling, cross-country or baseball teams must complete a sports physical permission to participate form before trying out. Physicals must have been completed within one year of the tryout session. Please inform the nurse’s office of any changes regarding your son’s health status that may affect his scholastic or physical performance. All information remains confidential. A separate flier explaining the tryout schedules is included in this mailing.

Thank you for cooperation in these matters. The faculty and administration are anxiously preparing for your son and his educational experience. We look forward to another excellent school year at St. Raymond High School for Boys. I would strongly encourage all parents to visit the school website on a regular basis. News, announcements, an updated monthly calendar, and the parent newsletter can all be found at www.straymondhighschool.org.
