Curriculum

Freshman Year

  • Earth Science (Basic): A basic, introductory Earth Science course utilizing both classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • General Earth Science: An introductory Earth Science course that will prepare students for the New York State Regents examination.
  • Honors Earth Science: An Honors level Earth Science course covering topics in greater depth and understanding than Basic and General Earth Science classes. Students will be required to take the New York State Regents Examination in Earth Science.

Sophomore Year

Biology (Basic): A basic, introductory biology course involving the study of living things and their environment. Students will be instructed according to the standards and curriculum established by New York State. Students will be required to take the New York State Living Environment Regents Examination.

General Biology: An introductory biology course focusing on the interaction of living things and their environment. Students will gain an understanding of the organization of living things and an appreciation of the unique adaptations that enable them to survive. In addition, students will learn how living things, including humans interact with their environment and how those interactions can be improved. Students will take the New York State Living Environment Regents Examination at the end of the course.

Honors Biology: An honors level Biology course which will prepare students for the New York State Living Environment Regents Examination as well as college level biology courses.

Junior Year

Chemistry (Basic): Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes. This course is designed as a basic introductory chemistry course, which emphasizes the role of chemistry in our everyday lives. Students will gain a basic understanding of chemical concepts through classroom instruction and laboratory investigation.

General Chemistry: An introductory chemistry course which includes both qualitative (conceptual) and quantitative (numeric) problem solving.

Honors Chemistry: An honors level chemistry course following the New York State standards and core curriculum. All students are required to take the New York State Regents examination in Chemistry.

Senior Year

Advanced Placement Biology: A college level Biology course that prepares students to take the Advanced Placement examination. A qualifying grade may be accepted as college credit.

Environmental Science: An honors level course that studies the interaction between humans and the environment and how that interaction can be improved. Students will gain an understanding of the interaction between ecologists, sociologists, politicians, and scientists in making environmental decisions.

Physics: An honors level Physics class preparing students for the New York State Regents examination in Physics as well as college study.
