The Parents Association of St. Raymond is a dedicated group of working parents. This vital component to St. Raymond is a diverse and talented collection of parents who meet monthly to discuss ways to best support the school, their sons, and each other.
Originally in the 1960s there was a Parent Organization founded by mothers who were very active in the school and in the community. Their main objective was to help their sons and the school community by working together to establish a strong foundation upon which their sons would grow and mature.
During the 2006-07 school year, the Parents Association ran concession sales during all St. Raymond basketball games. They also organized, for the first time, a highly successful Casino Night, at which close to 100 people enjoyed games, food and entertainment.
There is also an important academic component to the P.A. No matter what age your son is, every parent can benefit from sharing best practices for study habits, college preparation, and social/athletic opportunities. During the first meeting of the 2007-08 year, the Princeton Review gave a college preparation presentation to more than 40 parents. It was a valuable night for all. Mrs. Adoracion Macalintal has been a stalwart not just in the Mathematics department, but the entire St. Raymond community for 8 years. For her efforts, consistency and immersion in the mission, Mrs. Macalintal has been honored with the most notable award the school can bestow upon a faculty member, the Lasallian Educator of the Year. Each year the faculty and staff are charged with the responsibility of choosing a peer who best embodies the teachings and spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle.
De La Salle is very explicit as to what that spirit is: "The spirit of this our institutions and teachings," he writes in Chapter 2 of the 1705 Rule, "is first, a spirit of faith... Secondly, the spirit of consists in an ardent zeal for the instruction of children in the institute’s community.” The spirit of the Lasallian educator, therefore, has three components: faith, zeal, and community. These are not three distinct spirits, but really only three aspects of the one spirit of faith, overflowing into zeal, and demonstrated in a concrete way in a faith community. Mrs. Macalintal undoubtedly fosters these values and models the life of a Lasallian.
